Cotabato City
Shariff Kabungsuan Festival is held in Cotabato City every
15-19 of December to celebrate the arrival of Shariff Kabungsuan in Mindanao
via the Rio Grande, and the introduction of Islam to the native people. It is a
very significant event in Cotabato city. As an Islam festival, it become a
display of Muslim culture.
There are lots of events during the celebration of the
festival. It includes the Alimango festival, cultural presentations, acrobatic
shows, culinary competitions featuring traditional dishes, battle of the bands,
and exhibits featuring native products.
The high-lights of the
festival Is ”Guinakit” the parade of artistically decorated bancas along
the Rio Grande river and the “Pagana Maguindanao” a traditional way of dining among the
Maguindanaons and Maranaos.
